Keith Emerson has died suddenly at age 71
Emerson Lake and Palmer founder and pianist, Keith Emerson has shot himself due to the fear he would no longer be able to play well enough due to nerve damage in his hand.
Emerson's girlfriend, Mari Kawaguchi explained the legendary keyboardist was "tormented with worry" about upcoming concerts in Japan and found his body in their apartment early Friday morning in Los Angeles.
"Keith wasn't feeling well on Thursday night. He had bronchitis so I tucked him up in bed,' said Kawaguchi, "He was sleeping when I left and I thought he was sleeping when I got back, but then I realised what had happened. He was gone. I am still in total shock. His right hand and arm had given him problems for years. He had an operation a few years ago to take out a bad muscle but the pain and nerve issues in his right hand were getting worse."
Keith had earlier read criticism online where people posted comment such as, "I wish he would stop playing."
Kawaguchi described him as a "sensitive soul".
