Struggling to get by on the minimum wage? Good news, it’s going up to $16.50 next April, a 75c booster on the current rate.
Ryan Bridge and Lisa Owen are filling for Ali Mau this week on Drive, speaking with Workplace Relations and Safety Minister Iain Lees-Galloway.
Ryan - "This has already been announced...are you re-gifting for Christmas?!"
The minimum wage is set to increase from $15.75 to $16.50 per hour on the 1st April 2018 - and will benefit approximately 164,000 workers and their families.
“The Government is committed to a high-performing economy that delivers good jobs, decent work conditions, and fair wages,” says Mr. Lees-Galloway.
Iain discusses raising the minimum wage to $20 by 2021, as well as "we need to look at what we can do to make sure the impact isn't detrimental to particularly small businesses."
"I'll give credit where it's due... that was an New Zealand First policy"...
