'It will take a courageous government to fix child poverty' - Children's Commissioner

Drive 30/01/2018

Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern has released her Child Poverty Reduction Bill to drive a significant and sustained reduction in child poverty that lasts beyond successive governments.

Ardern said “For a country with relative abundance, New Zealand has the opportunity, and the moral obligation, to ensure children are free from the burden of poverty,”

For his thoughts on whether this is good policy or not, Ali Mau speaks to Children’s Commissioner Judge Andrew Becroft.

He says the policy is entirely welcomed.

"Agree with what she [Jacinda Ardern] said, it's a significant step forward.

We need courageous and committed approaches. This is a step in the right direction.

"The real question is going to be how courageous and committed are governments to make this happen," he told RadioLIVE.
