Friday Night Cocktail: The Negroni

Is there a cocktail more cool, more hip, more Italian than the Negroni? I think not.

Italians love bitter flavours. Bitter flavours actually warn us that we are potentially swallowing something poisonous, which is why we react so strongly to it. In order to fight what our body thinks is incoming poison, it reacts by producing saliva and stomach acid, stimulating our liver & gallbladder which is why bitter drinks make such good aperitifs. They awaken your appetite & prepare your body to break down fat & aid digestion. 

The Negroni is the iconic Italian cocktail & of late it’s become super fashionable & trendy. A very hipster drink, so simple to make yet for some reason so easy to get wrong. 

The Negroni

30mls London Dry Gin (Beefeater, Tanqueray, Bombay Sapphire)
30mls Campari 
30mls Vermouth Rosso 

Add the ingredients together in a cocktail shaker.
Shake well with ice.
Strain into a chilled cocktail glass over ice
Garnish with a twist of orange peel

These are all 90mls of pure alcohol so don’t drink & Vespa!
