Weekend Treats: Chocolate self-saucing pud

The Long Lunch.

This indulgent self-saucing chocolate pudding is one of Producer Dave's favourites. Give it a go!


  • 60g butter

  • 1 1⁄2 cups self-rising flour

  • 1 cup sugar

  • 1⁄4 cup cocoa

  • 1⁄2 cup milk

  • 2 teaspoons vanilla essence

  • 1 cup brown sugar

  • 1⁄2 cup cocoa (extra)

  • 2 cups boiling water


  1. Place butter in a microwave proof dish, melt on high for 1 minute.

  2. Stir in sifted flour, cocoa, sugar, milk and vanilla.

  3. Beat until smooth with a wooden spoon.

  4. Sprinkle with sifted cocoa & brown sugar.

  5. Pour over boiling water.

  6. Cook on high for 12 minutes (watch in case it boils over).

  7. Let stand 5 minutes before serving.

  8. Serve with ice cream or cream.

Secrets for success are checking it after 5 and 9 minutes to make sure that it is going ok. Key is making sure all the sauce doesn’t absorb into the pudding!
