Bridging the rural-urban divide in schools

Rural Exchange 15/07/2018

Farm industry group DairyNZ is behind a project that focuses on creating empathy and real-world connections between rural and urban children.

It's part of ongoing plans to bridge the urban-rural divide.

150 rural and urban schools have been paired together and challenged to work out the similarities and differences between each others lives.

One part of the project includes students taking pictures of their day to day activities, such as their school transport and chores, and compare them with one another.

DairyNZ strategy and investment leader Jenny Jago says students have found out there are actually a lot of similarities in their lifestyles.

"It's really all about building that awareness and understanding amongst the school children," Ms Jago told RadioLIVE's Rural Exchange.
