Damien O'Connor to introduce 'country of origin' labelling himself if necessary

Rural Exchange 07/07/2018

Possibly the busiest minister in the current government, Damien O'Connor has been overseas tackling all sorts of issues.

One of these issues is 'country of origin' labelling.

Many of our food standards are shared with Australia, with COO labelling being a notable exception.

This is due to change soon, with a Select Committee bill due back in the next four weeks.

Mr O'Connor says that if the Select Committee bill goes "round and round in circles" then he is committed to introducing one from the government.

The minister also provided an M.bovis update.

Some further farms have been identified as infected, but others have been cleared and are beginning to re-stock.

However this is exactly as expected and Mr O'Connor says so far there have been no surprises, which is a positive sign.

In the extensive discussion, Mr O'Connor also discusses the PSA decision and timeline on the Dairy Industry Restructuring Act.
