New 'ranged-free' standard set to add value to exports

Rural Exchange 01/07/2018

One New Zealand dairy farmer believes he has found the way to showcase our farming practices where animals roam free through a new certification process.

Wayne Shaw, CEO & creator of RangedFree wants to show the world just how exemplary New Zealand's farm animal welfare is.

Mr Shaw joins Rural Exchange to explain why this certification is needed, what prompted him to create it, and how it will be monitored.

Prior to setting up the company, Mr Shaw worked on farms in Canada and the United States.

“One of the things I was surprised about when I started working on farms overseas was how different they farmed to how we did in New Zealand.

“Over the last few years I’ve just been networking with key stakeholders and some wonderful people throughout New Zealand that have really got in behind me and helped me nurture this product and nurture me to make sure that what we were creating was something that was going to be very worthwhile,” he told RadioLIVE.
