Growing maize under film

Rural Exchange 02/09/2018

Following on from last year's bumper maize crop, Grant McDonald from Pioneer Brand Products believes 2018 will also be a good year for maize growers.

Farmers have also been looking for ways to reduce their Fat Evaluation Index (FEI), or palm kernel tax. Pioneer has been promoting maize - which is a low protein product and is a useful tool for farmers to manage their FEI results.

Another recent development is growing maize under film.

Pioneer says under film is a good way to grow maize in cooler temperatures in a greenhouse type system called SAMCO, originally developed out of Ireland for the colder climates.
