Primary industry on track to double exports by 2025

Rural Exchange 21/10/2018

New Zealand’s primary industry export revenue is forecast to reach $43.8 billion for the year to June 2019, an increase of 2.5 percent.

This figure comes from the latest Situation and Outlook report released by the Ministry for Primary industries this week.

Minister for Agriculture Damien O'Connor believes New Zealand may be on track to double its primary industry exports by 2025.

"It's not about doing more, it's about getting more for what we do," Mr O'Connor says.

"Behind us now are some environmental limits that mean we're probably not going to be able to drive the volume that we did in the past, so the only option is to drive the value out of what we do."
