Google Plus bites the dust

Google what?

G+ was Google’s answer to social networks.

It sat somewhere closer to Linkedin than Facebook, but then Linkedin got better… and G+ left 500,000 passwords vulnerable to hackers.

The digital giant is going to shut down the consumer version of Google+ over the next 10 months.

This decision follows the revelation of a previously undisclosed security flaw that exposed users’ profile data.

The flaw was remedied in March 2018.

Netflix now bigger than Sky

According to a Roy Morgan survey released on August 13, 1.91 million New Zealanders were in a household with Netflix access in June – giving the streaming giant wider reach than Sky TV.

Spark tweaks plans, unplans, wait what?

The country’s largest internet provider has bridged the traditional divide between capped and unlimited plans with Unplan, which is available to existing and new customers for fibre and wireless broadband plans on a 12-month contract.

If you consume more than 120GB (gigabytes) of data on one of Spark’s fibre or wirelessentry-level 30Mbps (megabits per second) broadband plans, you’ll pay $85 a month (phone line and entertainment packages are extra).

If your usage drops to between 60GB and 120GB you’ll pay $75, and dipping below 60GB for the month will see your monthly bill drop to $65.

Weatherwheel app shows the forecast in a new way

Paul and Vaughn love weather apps, but all of them essentially display the same forecast data from the same models, so it all comes down to how the data is presented

Weatherwheel has come up with a very cool way to repackage the info.

The app calls itself “probably the most beautiful weather app in the world”.

The heart of it is an animation that lets you scroll ahead through time, rotating the globe and going from day to night etc as the weather changes.

Sunday Social with Vaughn Davis, 7pm - 8pm on RadioLIVE and streaming live to the Rova app on Android and iPhone.
