Thousands of nurses went on strike earlier this week for fairer pay and working conditions, which saw thousands of non-urgent medical procedures delayed and - as yet – no end to the turmoil.

The New Zealand Nurses Organisation (NZNO) Industrial Services Manager, Cee Payne joined RadioLIVE's Carly Flynn after more than 30,000 nurses worked off the job this week for the first time in 30 years.

Ms Payne says patients are sicker, the turnover is higher and more people are coming into hospitals. But was the strike really worth it?

The government says it’s the best offer they have, however the nurses say it’s not enough.

Ms Payne explains the nurses' key point is to “make the invisible problems, visible”, and it’s not just about the money.

The healthcare workers are thankful for the public support, and will be talking with key people next week to see what will happen going forward.
