The Heart Dances – the Journey of the Piano: the ballet, an elegant new film from the director of Crossing Rachmaninoff is a theatrical European interpretation of a New Zealand classic.

The film, pulled together in only nine months looks behind the scenes at the Piano: the ballet.

Director Rebecca Tansley joins RadioLIVE’s Trudi Nelson to discuss what attracted her to this film and what she plans to do next.

“I was attracted to that idea of adaptation.”

She says there were so many layers to the film, and she can’t wait see what people make of it.

It has a laugh and some scandal but Ms Tansley admits “making a movie is all about challenges”

She wanted the film to have it’s own identity separate to the ballet, and showed this through her music choices and camera shots.

Head to the NZIFF website for more information.
