Environews: A great insect extinction?

Weekend Variety Wireless 06/02/2018

Graeme speaks with John Early, an Entomologist from Auckland Museum about insects numbers and species in New Zealand.

Some regions of the planet are experiencing a huge drop in insect numbers, and species, but whos counting and where?

John discusses some worrying reports, such as people saying we have so many species it doesn't matter if we lose a few... is that the way to think?!

The majority of species have become extinct, and new forms have evolved.

John says it's one thing to name and categorise something, but we need to know more than that, what does it do, where does it live?
