Dr Matthew Egbert of Auckland University merges biological and computer science and is the recipient of a Marsden Fund grant of $300,000 to investigate nothing less than the origin of life on Earth.
Graeme speaks with Dr. Egbert about some life-long questions individuals have... What IS Life? Was the Earth swimming with RNA before DNA “happened”? Are viruses alive? Also, are oil bobbles in your salad dressing in one way at least, alive?
We're not thinking 'who is the first person?', we're thinking 'what was the first organism?'
