Nelson comes out on top with booming economy

Nelson has come out on top of ASB's regional economic scoreboard for the third time in the row, leaving its mayor proud to say it's the "best small city" in the country.

The sunny South Island city's economy is booming, with its good fortune expected to continue in the future.

Nelson mayor Rachel Reese told Duncan Garner part of the success is its diversity - with port, forestry and dairy, the city isn't tied to just one industry.

"It's all looking good and investment in the city is high… The future is looking very bright here," she said.
