Phil Twyford: New homes for citizens and permanent residents only

The new Minister of Housing and Urban Development Phil Twyford is promising restrictions on home buying from January next year as part of Labour's 'Kiwibuild' initative.

Mr Twyford says it'll take about three years for the KiwiBuild programme to fully kick into gear.

The Minister says building will be ramped up to 10,000 new homes a year.

This is the policy that we campaigned on. We are going to build some houses.

He goes on to explain that the KiwiBuild programme is only for first home buyers who are citizens or permanent residents of this country.

Mr Tywford told Duncan that during Labour's first 100 days there will be a policy change on who can buy homes.

“We’re going to ban people who are not citizens or permanent residents of this country from buying existing homes.”
