Photos: NZ's final new $5, $10 notes revealed

The final designs of New Zealand's first two denominations of a series of new banknotes have been unveiled.

The $5 and $10 notes were revealed at the Reserve Bank in Wellington this morning and are set to go into circulation mid-October.

Governor of the Reserve Bank Graeme Wheeler says the notes are not only "technologically sophisticated and difficult to counterfeit" but also "aesthetically pleasing".

"The polymer notes are striking in their design and innovative in their security with the transparent holographic window and colour-changing bird a world first," he says.

The remaining three denominations – $20, $50, and $100 – in the new series will be released in April next year.
