Christchurch fires have spread into new adventure park

The fire raging on the Christchurch Port Hills has partially destroyed the new multi-million dollar Christchurch Adventure Park.

The fires have raged since Monday afternoon destroying buildings, vehicles and forcing evacuations.

Now nearby residents have had to watch as the flames have ripped through the newly opened biking tracks.

The adventure park's spokesperson Anne Newman said: "The fire is racing down through the valley in the main part of the park where the chairlift is."

One nearby resident told Newshub that while there was "talk of being under it being under control, but just then there were flames that just erupted".

The long awaited $24 million park opened in December.
