Sing-songwriter Sixto Rodriguez has cancelled his upcoming tour to New Zealand and Australia due to medical restrictions.
The acclaimed Mexican-American musician, primarily known as Rodriguez, was due to play at Auckland's Villa Maria Winery on February 2.
According to a press release, Rodriguez is "very upset" to having let his fans down and has apologized for any inconvenience caused by the cancellation.
Details of a new tour will be announced once he recovered. The 76-year-old says he is looking forward to be being able to return to New Zealand.
Rodriguez is the subject of an Oscar-winning documentary Searching for Sugarman, which tells the incredible story of how his two albums in the early 70s became a cultural phenomenon in South Africa. The musician had no clue of his fame until a group of fans found him on the Internet, despite his rumoured death, and encouraged him to return to music.
Tickets purchased from official ticketing agencies, like Ticketmaster, will be refunded.
