Sir Elton John announces three NZ shows as part of final world tour

Kiwis will get their last opportunity to see the legendary Elton John live in concert before he retires from touring.

The 'Benny and the Jets' hitmaker will play three shows as part of his 'Farewell Yellow Brick Road' world tour in 2020.

Dunedin's Forsyth Barr Stadium will host Sir Elton first on Tuesday, February, 4, before he plays the iconic Mission Estate show in Napier on Saturday, February 8, and Mt Smart Stadium in Auckland on Sunday, February 9.

"New Zealand, I can't wait to be with you again," he said. "It's now 48 years since my first ever New Zealand concert. This tour will see my 12th concert in Auckland, my 2nd concert in Dunedin at the Forsyth Barr Stadium, which I opened many years ago, and my first performance at Hawke's Bay.

I am thrilled that this final tour will see me and the band playing somewhere new in your great country.

The Farewell Yellow Brick Road tour is a lengthy one at three years and an estimated 300 concerts, but it will be John's last.

"I don't want to go out with a whimper. I want to go out with a bang," he said at a press conference last year.

"It'll be the most produced, fantastic show I've ever done. I'm 71 - I can't physically do the travelling any more. I want to be at home. I really want to spend time with my children at home.

I've had an incredible life, but life is all about change.
