Rare photos of The Beatles last recording session in 1969

Most people would associate the last ever Beatles song with being ‘Don’t Let Me Down’, but the last song the band ever recorded as a foursome was actually ‘I Want You (She’s So Heavy)’ - a love song written by John Lennon for Yoko Ono.

The song was recorded on August 20th, 1969, which although the band didn't know it at the time, would be the last time the Fab Four were together in the studio.

The band went to a photoshoot two days later on the grounds of John's estate, they weren't photographed in studio again.

These are the he final photographs of the boys in the studio, recording the last over dubs to John’s song for Yoko. The session at Abbey Road studios for the LP of the same name was just before the infamous “split letter”, but the photos still have a slight hollowness and obvious tension to them that feels very poignant looking back.
