Paul McCartney dusts off his trumpet for ‘When the Saints Go Marching In’ jazz performance

Sir Paul McCartney went back to his musical roots by pulling out his trumpet for a rousing performance of ‘When the Saints Go Marching In’ with the New Orleans’ Preservation Hall Jazz Band.

As part of the ‘Round Midnight Preserves virtual livestream benefit fundraising for struggling musicians during the pandemic, Paul (together with Elvis Costello, Jim James, Dave Matthews, Irma Thomas, Nathaniel Ratleliff, Dave Grohl and more) provided trumpet and vocals to the performance.

The trumpet was in fact the first instrument Paul’s father bought him. And while he did learn it for a bit, he eventually convinced his dad to trade it with a guitar, which we think was a worthwhile investment!
