NZ's entire 'Wild West' town up for sale

undefined

An entire 'Wild West'-style town is up for sale in New Zealand - and some wealthy overseas investors have their eyes on it.

The Mellonsfolly Ranch, located south of Taumarunui, was built as a replica of an 1860s Wyoming frontier town and comes with a mānuka honey business producing 15.5 tons of mānuka honey each year.

Set on a 900-acre ranch on the North Island's Central Plateau, it was designed to be as accurate to the original town as possible and comes with multiple buildings - including a licensed saloon, sheriff's office and 13 guest rooms.

The town was brought by New Zealander Rob Bartley in 2012, but he says the time has come to move on.

"I'm certainly sad to be selling it," he told the US's Bloomberg. "My family doesn't really want to sell it, but we've got so many other business interests. I've got to make some decisions."

As well as operating as a hospitality business, with the whole town available to rent for $7900 per night, the ranch runs a successful bulk honey business from about 600 hives.

The whole town is now listed for around $11.7 million with New Zealand Sotheby's International Realty, and is already attracting attention from around the world.
