Christine Rankin, former head of the Ministry of Social Development joins Peter Williams in conversation to discuss the 42 recommendations made by the Welfare Expert Advisory Group on welfare reform.
The Government is being criticised after it said it would implement three out of 42 recommendations made by the report. Christine believes that while the intentions of the report may be "well meaning" but misguided.
But they just don't have a basic understanding of what this is about.
Christine explained the role welfare should play is to support people in getting into the workplace, but the recommendations seek to "trap people ine welfare for the rest of their life."
