Duncan Garner: Brand 'Destiny' too flashy and weird to succeed

Politics is not for the faint-hearted and Hannah Tamaki is one brave woman.

She's much braver than her husband, who believes he has a higher calling so clearly politics is reserved for someone less worthy, and Hannah has stepped up.

What a launch - a fumbling, odd mix of WTF and am I really hearing this?

They have clearly rushed this given National is thinking of hoodwinking us too by sending Alfred Ngaro out on his own as a stand-alone Christian.

It was so rushed that they didn't even own the domain name of the party and comedian Tim Batt quickly snapped it up.

If you search coalitionparty.co.nz you'll find a YouTube clip of a gay television series, which is pretty hilarious.

It's a take on what it means to be LGBTQ+ in the modern world, but it's no laughing matter for the Tamakis who are about to get schooled in just how hard it is to set up a political movement in NZ.

Ask any number of failed Christian jump starts in the past - Graham Capill, Graham Lee, why are they all called Graham? Then along came Craig, first name Colin, and he flopped - or maybe failed is a better term given he was so sorry to his wife for a number of office mix-ups that are probably best left unsaid.

It's awfully difficult to set up a political party well.

Winston Peters did it and has battled to stay relevant. He has done extraordinarily well. But everyone else seems to die either quickly or eventually.

Destiny has been there before and has failed to capture the hearts and minds of Kiwis. The brand is too flashy, too extreme, too weird, tumeke too much.

I can't see success in their destiny this time either.
