Plans for the design of Scott Base’s multi-million-dollar upgrade of New Zealand's Antarctic outpost have been revealed.
Scott Base Redevelopment senior project manager Simon Shelton joins Ryan Bridge on Magic Talk Drive has welcomed the news of extra funding, as the current base reached the end of its functional life.
He describes the new design as essential, “while the design is made to reduce the amount of snow that builds up on the building. It is incredibly functional building.”
Simon describes the potential for 24 hour work days in the Antarctic summer to construct the building and the importance of reducing waste when building.
He describes the work that they do and how they survive in the cold and harsh weather.
