We found our hooker two weeks ago on Facebook - Tonga rugby assistant coach

Assistant coach to the Tonga rugby team, Richard Watt tells Magic Talk Drive the team may naturally be nervous but, “you don’t enter a contest without believing that you can win”.

He tells host Ryan Bridge that of course playing “the best team in the world” will create some nerves but that past games have shown that if you put enough pressure on the All Blacks they can make mistakes.

Following the Fiji game Watt explains some of the challenges facing Tonga in sourcing players after injury concerns, “so the guys you bring in after injuries might be way off the mark compared to New Zealand.”

One example is the hooker for the Tonga team making his test debut against the All Blacks was found just two weeks ago using facebook.

He explains how both Tonga hookers are out of the game and so they found a roofer in Christchurch, “and all of a sudden he’s starting against the All Blacks, but it’s a great story!”

Watt says, “he may be feeling some pressure, but the scrum is a collective thing.”
