Greg Newbold, Criminologist at Canterbury University tells Magic Talk Drive's Ryan Bridge that women "lack the commitment" for a female only chapter of the Mongrel Mob to continue for any long time.
He made the comments following reports that there was a female only chapter of the gang being founded with an emphasis on being less violent than their male counterpart.
Newbold rubbished their claims and seemed to show very little confidence in the women involved being capable of maintaining the gang chapter.
Women have always played a periphery role in the gangs.
He cites that women that are already related to or involved in gangs are usually less well educated and more likely to have social bonds with their brothers and spouses than with other women.
