Author Peter Fitzsimons has released a new book about James Cook aiming to reveal who the man behind the near mythological historical status truly was.
Fitzsimons joins Magic Talk Afternoons with Sean Plunket to explain his motivations for writing the book.
The book is an unflinching account of Captain Cook, including his strengths and weaknesses, failures and successes.
The release comes at a time when Cook has been criticised by many people for his treatment of indigenous people of both Australia and New Zealand.
Veteran English broadcaster Sir Michael Parkinson has described the book as the most comprehensive account he had ever read and that we shouldn’t judge the explorer by today's standards.
