Finance minister Grant Robertson joined The AM Show this morning to confirm the numbers released yesterday showing the drop in unemployment numbers.
He responds to criticism of the latest numbers showing a surprise drop in unemployment, saying they show how well the Government's economic response has worked to "cushion the blow" of COVID-19.
Unemployment dropped from 4.2 percent to 4 percent in the June quarter, despite the biggest economic downturn since the Great Depression, because of COVID-19.
We have said all along the worst impacts of it, from an economic point of view, weren't going to be felt until the September quarter data. So obviously these numbers are going to move around a bit.
