TOVA O’BRIEN, DUNCAN GARNER AND PATRICK GOWER TO FRONT NEWSHUB DECISION 2020 COVERAGE ON THREE
Tova O’Brien, Duncan Garner and Patrick Gower will host Newshub’s Decision 2020 live election night coverage on Three. In the lead-up to the election, Newshub will also host a head-to-head leaders debate and two special programmes on the referendum questions.
The trio of current and former Political Editors have over 35 years of political reporting experience and have covered 17 New Zealand elections between them. They will be joined by an expert panel on election night.
Newshub Political Editor Tova O’Brien says: “The saying used to go that a week is a long time in politics, in 2020 a minute became a lifetime. There are so many edge-of-seat, must-watch variables - Jacinda vs Judith, the political fate of Winston, minor parties teetering on extinction, the rise of ACT, Covid-19 rearing its head and beating at our borders, policy debate for unprecedented times, too many battleground electorates and issues to count.”
Newshub National Correspondent Patrick Gower will host the Newshub Decision 2020 Leaders Debate between Jacinda Ardern and Judith Collins in front of a live audience at 7:30PM on Wednesday, September 30th. Patrick Gower says:
Our leaders debate will be for everybody. It is about the future of New Zealand and who gets to lead us there. I will be standing in the middle on behalf of the ordinary Kiwi.
Gower will also host two one-hour specials on euthanasia and recreational cannabis to help Kiwis make informed choices on the two other big questions we’re being asked to vote on this year. These programmes will feature experts from both sides and will explore the issues and moral conundrums they present.
Newshub Decision 2020 The Cannabis Question will air Wednesday, October 7th at 8:30PM and Newshub Decision 2020 The Euthanasia Question will air Wednesday, October 14th at 8.30PM.
“The referendum questions make this election even more unique and we are giving them the coverage they deserve so that people can make an informed choice,” Gower says.
Newshub will also have up to the minute coverage of every moment of the election campaign on Newshub Live at 6PM, The AM Show, The Project, Newshub Nation and online at newshub.co.nz
Tova O’Brien says: “If 2020 is anything to go by, this is going to be the most unpredictable, exciting, high-stakes, important, volatile, whiplash-inducing election campaign in a generation. We’ll be there every step of the way, talking about the things that matter to you and helping you make sense of the maelstrom.”
The AM Show’s Duncan Garner said: “Newshub traditionally has the best leaders debate, the more searching interviews and the superior coverage stands out - and we always have more fun. We were encouraged, grateful and bloody delighted last time when record numbers of kiwis tuned in to our election night coverage and debates. It showed that you trust us. That's why being with the best team is crucial for me and you.”
