Rising unemployment is stretching Ministry of Social Development resources and is leading to long waiting times for beneficiaries trying to ask for help.
Data obtained by Newshub shows the average wait time for Work and Income to answer the phone was 40 minutes in October and November last year.
If you ask MSD to call you back to wait times are even longer.
Viv Rickard is the acting CEO for the Ministry of Social Development and joins Ryan over the phone to discuss this and more.
Following Viv, Ryan is joined by Debbie Munroe, spokesperson for Waka of Caring’ - a foodbank and community support centre in South Auckland, who says WINZ isn't doing enough.
Join Ryan Bridge every weekday from 4pm on Magic Talk.
