Sadly... 1 in five won't survive.

Child Cancer Foundation are currently supporting 1,400 families through different stages of their childhood cancer journey. But every year... they need $6 million dollars in order to do so.

Child Cancer Foundation is a National Charity Partner of the MediaWorks Foundation.

Christine Rankin Suit

This is your chance to own a unique and original piece of New Zealand’s political and social history. You’re bidding on a trademark short skirt, earrings and designer-made suit worn by former WINZ boss Christine Rankin during one of the country’s biggest bureaucratic scandals.

The beneficiary-turned-boss of the welfare agency courted much controversy in the late 1990s and early 2000s thanks to her unconventional management style and unorthodox fashion. Through a now-infamous employment dispute, Ms Rankin accused senior male civil servants and politicians of leading a sexist campaign to have her removed from office.

The hair, earrings and skirt became iconic - plastered across newspapers, exaggerated in cartoons and the news.

The UK’s Guardian newspaper reported at the time: “Working women in New Zealand celebrated Christine Rankin Day last week by slipping on the designer-miniskirted suits and ostentatious gold earrings favoured by the controversial public servant”.

Then-Opposition leader Jenny Shipley donned an above-the-knee skirt in Parliament as a show of support and was quoted referencing Rankin’s fashion. "I completely respect Christine Rankin's right to dress the way she does and I have dressed this way today because I demand to dress the way that suits me”.

DETAILS: A bright green custom-made suit and miniskirt by well-known Wellington designer Tina de Bres. All of Christine’s suits and skirts from the late 90s and early 2000s were designed by Tina and most of the iconic images are of the same style and cut in different colours.

The trademark dangly earrings (pictured) were also worn by Christine at the time. A certificate of authenticity signed by Christine will be included.

The entire suit, earrings and prints of the cartoons will be beautifully framed for display wherever the bidder sees fit!

This is a bit of fun and a rather unique offering. All money raised goes to Child Cancer Foundation as part of Ryan Bridge's 36 Hour Talkathon
