OPINION: Delta is tightening her grip on Auckland and the Coromandel with around 70 locations of interest identified, the first location pinged two weeks ago.
It seems she's been lingering in young hosts, with little sign of her presence until that tradie in his 50s got a test this week.
It's mainly young people affected so far, in their late teens and 20s. Most of them are not vaccinated.
In fact, only 23 percent of this country is fully vaccinated.
Food courts, church, mall, cinema, all listed - the list of locations of interest is growing.
And the numbers - hundreds were at a church, 80-odd at an exam.
This is not scientific - obviously - but a lot of my friends in their 20s and 30s are starting to feel pretty scared.
They want to be vaccinated, and they want it now.
I know of at least three now who are planning to rock up to vaccine centres and try their luck, even though it's not immediately effective.
The official advice is that you must wait your turn and book in advance - but it's hard to hear because COVID seems to be lurking, and the vaccine is what keeps you healthy. Well, not for all - but for most.
I'm not saying it's right or wrong - but there are young people in Auckland right now who want the jab ahead of older people outside of the city.
