LISTEN: Taranaki's vaccine rollout has been slow. So the District Health Board has a new incentive for locals to get their COVID-19 jab - a free bacon sandwich.
At the weekend, the board organised a mass vaccination event for New Plymouth at the Raceway intending to attract 2000 people wanting their first Pfizer jab.
Not many people showed up - only 342 did.
This Wednesday, as a way to entice people to get jabbed, the DHB has come up with a delicious plan.
Between 7am and 9am, anyone who gets their jab at the New Plymouth hub in Vivian Street will get a free bacon butty.
Bevan Clayton-Smith, who leads the region’s COVID-19 vaccination programme, says it's a cunning plan to get Taranaki vaccinated.
"This is one way of just trying to create initiatives and be inventive," he told Magic Talk.
"Nothing is off the table. We're going to really look to think how we can work smarter and more clever to enable everybody across Taranaki to be vaccinated."
