LISTEN: New rules for MIQ will be coming into force from early 2022, it was announced on Wednesday.
COVID-19 Response Minister Chris Hipkins said the changes, which would allow vaccinated travellers to skip MIQ and isolate at home for seven days instead, would be a "staged" process starting with Kiwis arriving from Australia on January 17.
Speaking to Magic Talk's Lloyd Burr Live, Hipkins acknowledged the country is entering a new phase in its response to the COVID-19 pandemic.
"That doesn't though mean that we just want to give up and let COVID-19 run rip. We want to make sure that we're trying to contain COVID-19, we don't want to see massive outbreaks," he told Magic Talk.
Prominent Kiwi businessman Murray Boulton, who many are crediting for getting the changes to MIQ across the line after taking the government to court, and Lynda Keene, who is the CEO of Tourism Export Council, join Lloyd Burr to discuss the new rules.
